By conducting a questionnaire, I discovered that 80% of the people I asked said they wanted a magazine. Showing there was a market for the product. However I also found that the majority of people didn’t really want to pay for it which suggests that I should put the price fairly cheap so people can afford it and may still want to buy it.
From the questionnaire I also found out that 60% of people would pay something for it, this means that we can put a price on the magazine knowing people will still buy it. Overall, most people would pay around 50p-£1.00 for the magazine.
The people I asked also said that they would like the magazine to be published either fortnightly/monthly- 90% of people said this. This means that buyers are getting a good deal with how much it costs and when it comes out.
I also know what to include in my magazine as most of the people voted for an events page and a jobs section and they also said they wanted a gossip page, college information and course information. This will also help me with the contents page of my college magazine.
I also asked people what would encourage the readers to buy the magazine and they provided me with the answers with a great deal of them saying, it has to be eye-catching, has to have bright colours, and plenty of photography.
Another question that didn’t go down too well was when I asked them if they would subscribe to the magazine and 80% of them said no. To try turn their minds around I would introduce a deal. Such as, first issue free and then 50% of the second if you subscribe.
The last question I asked was, what would you like to appear on the front cover. Many of them said students, or just models in general. So for every issue I would take pictures of different students in the college each time.
The questionnaire has helped me a lot in creating and fulfilling my ideas for the college magazine and now I know what they want I can hopefully give it to them.
