How does your media product represent a particular social group?

I have chosen an image of Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine simply because she is demographically and pyschographically similar to my cover model/artist and I think that they would both attract my target audience. My target audience is not as easily recognised as say goths or punks but you can see from the images below that my target audience do share something in common.

My image is a mid shot so that you can visually see the background in the image. Florence's image is a medium close up and you can just see the top of her clothes. My image has a subjective gaze but the other image has an objective gaze making you want to see what she is looking at. Both images are posed but in a natural way. The shallow depth of field in both the images makes the main topic stand out even more and also the blurred background gives off a nice effect. The images have different postures and their bodies are also in different angles to the camera. My image has her body facing the sea and her head is turned to look at the camera. The other image has her at an angle, almost diagonal to the camera and you can see the side of her face. My model's facial expression is neutral whereas the other models' is slightly open, which could connote shock, suprise, or interested moods. Both models have a similar haircut with a bold full fringe, however Florence has red hair and my model is brunette. Both of the images is set in an outside environment, which is where my target audience also like to be. You can tell from the clothes and also how the models have been done up that they come from a middle or above class. The shirts and collared dresses also helps the reader recognise the type of clothing that my magazine links into and could also be an example of how they want to dress.

Demographics

I chose to have a female as my main image because the particular issue of the magazine is mainly to do with women, the other image is very similar to mine because she is too a female and they share a similar race. Although I have used a female as the main image I still do believe that both genders will be attracted to my magazine. The men will always find women attractive so this may encourage them to pick my magazine up especially as the magazine includes a photoshoot of the artist, but another encouraging aspect is that a lot of men like indie music, some may like alternative but the majority will like indie. The females will like the magazine because the artist is someone to look up to and they will obviously like the genre of music, but clothes will probably influence them to read it as has a lot of photography and fashion content.

Pyschographics

The pyschographics is mainly suceeders although some could be aspirers- buying the magazine to achieve this lifestyle. My lifestyle subset for my magazine is yuppies because it is targeted at young men and women with a successful job.

My magazine is a pro-consumerist because contains a wide amount of style and fashion and particular looks, also because my magazine is targeted at middle class and above, they will very much want to spend their cash. So having pages in a magazine where they can see what they can buy will attract my audience. The advertisements in my magazine will very much be about indie fashion and other related subjects. There will also be advertisements of festivals, cameras, and art.
